Shawn and Jaydie were married on a beautiful Saturday afternoon a few weeks ago.
We have been so excited about meeting this sweet couple since Jaydie first emailed us in January.
Little did we know when we opened Jaydie’s first email that it was sent all the way from Africa!
Yep, that’s right; Africa!!!
Jaydie is a missionary in the country of Togo.
As we learned more about Jaydie and Shawn we were amazed at their wonderful, God-scripted love story!
“We met Wednesday afternoon, October 3rd, 2012, at General Conference in the Global
Missions Booths and the story begins: Shawn asked if Jaydie was from South Carolina as he’d received some ‘promotional material’ about her from a mutual friend earlier that year. He then asked her if she’d join him for coffee so they could share their missions stories (he’d been an AIMer (Associates In Missions) all over Central America and she is an appointed missionary to Mali); of course, she didn’t say no! After spending much of the next two days together, either at Starbucks or in services, they finished up conference Friday night at the altar (unbeknownst to them) side by side. During the altar call, Jaydie prayed: “Lord, if my husband is here, (by the way, Lord, if it’s Shawn, that’d be really nice but if not, You know best), let him come and pray with me and when he does, let him take my hand.” Meanwhile, the Lord began speaking to Shawn: ” Turn and pray for the girl standing to your left and when you do, take her hand because that’s the only way she’ll know that she’s to be your wife.” Jaydie continued praying, unaware that a cosmic struggle was going on only steps away…Shawn told the Lord, “NO! She’ll think I’m crazy. And what about all these people who are watching? What if her dad sees? I never pray for woman like that. No, Lord.” Jesus, thankfully, kept talking to him and he finally went and prayed with her, taking her hand in both of his. From that night and over the course of the next few weeks, they both knew that the Lord was up to something amazingly beautiful in our lives! Shawn asked Jaydie to marry him on November 12th at a little pond in the Biltmore Estates. She said, “Yes!” And the rest, well, the rest is history in the making! “
